Children: 4 Grandchildren: 11 Civilian Occupation:  Teacher/MFGR Sales
Hobbies: Reading/Sports/History Favorite Memory:  Just before my 21st birthday we had been underway then arrived at St.Thomas in the Virgin Islands. I wanted to celebrate but drew the duty section in the radio shack, very disappointed. Then the liberty sections started returning aboard after the night on the town. What a sight. A man getting to the quarterdeck and dropping a bottle of liquor. The Officer of the Deck treated it as though it was grenade. Many laughs that night watching the show. Glad I had the duty as I look back. Celebrated the next day. Also enjoyed France, Italy, Greece and Turkey on the Med deployment. Found it strange that we got underway to the Med with about six or seven Army enlisted, a Sgt.Thomas in charge. Being 80 years old this month, that was almost 60 years ago!
Worst Memory:  Not having been aboard, new out of Radio A school, I was on my turn for mess cook duty.
the Mexico hurricane/flood disaster, to which we responded, meant that we had to get under way asap. There were some unhappy sailors and the mess deck got dangerous. Things were thrown about in a way such that we had to duck behind the serving area until order was restored. I also hated amphibious landings all day out in the freezing weather. Miserable.!

Special Comments: My Grandfather, Marvin Miller, whose information is listed below was stationed aboard the USS Oglethorpe AKA 100 from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War.  He is still around and still has very fond memories of his days of service.   However, he is older now an frail with onset of dementia.  He lost his dear wife Shirley last year to cancer.   He himself is too frail to travel to Branson, Missouri from Madison, Georgia for the reunion this year for certain.

He had a hat, a USS Oglethorpe Hat, maybe he had gotten at a reunion that yall had years back.   I was wondering if you had any more that I could purchase?  I would buy 2 or 3 if I could.   Or if you know a website where they sell them, I would more than happy to go there.

My husband is in the military himself, Army, we are stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso TX.   We both come from military families and are proud to serve this country.   Please if you can, let me know where I may be able to find a hat or any memorabilia from the USS Oglethorpe AKA 100 for Grandfather.
